PRODUCE SHOW RESULTS 2023
Yet another weird and ghastly year, climatewise as well as horticulturally (not to mention, so far as your
correspondent was concerned, medically -- but that's another story).
So -- terrible Spring; terrible Summer; and the week before the actual Show a blistering heat-wave, registering, I
understand, not only the highest daytime temperature of the year, but one of the highest of the past decade. Phew!
And yet you lot out there continue to show your true mettle -- and grow wonderful flowers, superb fruit and vegetables, make brilliant crafts
and delicious food, paint excellent pictures, take extraordinary photos (and I mean extraordinary: some entries in the photo section were
not simply breathtaking, but breathtakingly ingenious -- we have some true Camera Fiends in the village!). And it can never be said
that we remain static -- three individuals on the leader board are first-timers.
A huge amount of hard graft goes into the making and setting up of our little Show, and many grateful thanks, as ever, to all who beavered
away behind, and in front of, the scenes. In no particular order: June Nason, Jane Munford, Gillian Lowder, Eloise Van Vuren, Tom Van Vuren,
Ian Hyson, and our esteemed Chair Jeff White.
Special thanks, again as ever, to our hard-working Judges: Caroline Rayner, Keri Backhouse, Jane Munford, and our Chief Produce Judge
(newcomer this year, who enjoyed himself immensely and, it is to be hoped, will be back next year) Robert Heigham.
But my biggest thanks go to my two colleagues Louise Van Vuren and Ken Nason -- without whom, frankly, there'd be no Show!
See you all next year!
